The American Hardwood Export Council (AHEC) 22nd Southeast Asia & Greater China Convention to be held in Qingdao

As the annual grand event in the hardwood industry, the American Hardwood Export Council (AHEC) 22nd Southeast Asia & Greater China Convention is scheduled on June 22 and 23 at the Westin Hotel, Qingdao, China. Since 2004, this is the second time that this event is being hosted in the Chinese city of Qingdao. This year, the Convention will promote U.S. hardwood for the user and specifier market, continuing AHEC’s mission for over 20 years. The event is expected to attract over 400 delegates, 30 AHEC hardwood exporting members, China’s and some SEA leading wood traders and wood products manufacturers, and many renowned designers.

Distinguished guests scheduled to attend and deliver speeches include Mr. Mark Ford, Director of Agricultural Trade Office in Beijing; Mr. Dave Bramlage, Chairman of American Hardwood Export Council; Mr. Michael Snow, Executive Director of American Hardwood Export Council; Ms. Niu Guang Xia, Executive President of Shandong Furniture Association; Mr. John Chan, Regional Director of American Hardwood Export Council Southeast Asia & Greater China; Mr. Sun Jie, Chairman of Shandong Furniture Association & President of Yantai Jisi Group; Mr. Dana Spessert, Chief Inspector of National Hardwood Lumber Association (USA); Mr. Aaron Leri, Marketing Director of AA Corporation Ltd (Vietnam) and Mr. Silas Chiow, Director of SOM China (USA), and so on. Keynote presentations will address the Global US hardwood market environmental concerns by introducing the sustainable American hardwoods, business opportunities and product application. Prominent designers will share their knowledge of applications for American hardwood in architecture, interior design and interior decoration.

China’s economy is still in an upward phase and is expected to maintain a steady growth rate of 6.5% in 2017. The new ban on logging of natural forest in three Northeastern provinces effective this year will push up demand of American hardwood to compensate for the weaker Chinese renminbi currency, a disadvantage for imports. The growth of domestic consumption for furniture is playing a role in strengthening China’s number one position in global furniture production, compensating for weak overseas export markets in the years to come.

Shandong province has been emerging to the biggest solid furniture manufacturing province in China and ranked third largest timber importing province after Guangdong and Jiangsu. The Convention is supported by the Shandong Furniture Association, Shandong Interior Decoration Association, Qingdao Timber Industry Association, Shanghai Timber Trade Association and China Institute of Interior Designers Beijing as support organizers, etc. A mini-trade show will also be held for AHEC members, providing a platform for networking with local traders, distributors, manufacturers and specifiers.
